Salvador Dali (Spain)
1904 -1989
The most popular Surrealist artist, Dali developed the paranoiac-critical method where paranoia and ‘insanity’ are induced to produce alternate representations of reality. Images are of startling and unknown nature. Reversal of hard & soft objects, hidden self-portraits, crutches, chest of drawers, man and child are some of the other aspects of Dalinian continuity.
Of Dali's many interests, the rituals of eating and the love of his life, Gala, came together in a series of lithographs and etching named Les Diners de Gala (dinner with Gala). We have one of the combination lithograph plus etchings, hand signed by Dali in pencil.
